If you’ve been reading my newsletter for any length of time (see the form below to sign up for that if you haven’t already), you know that I think Happy Mail is where it’s at. Happy Mail is an important and necessary part of our everyday lives. At first it sounds trivial. Yes, there are plenty of other important and necessary things in our lives. But it’s because of all those other important, necessary and sometimes really heavy things in our lives that we need a little support and to know that others care about us.
Life can get pretty complicated and messy. We don’t always have the answers to the really big problems we encounter, but it’s actually the little, happy things that help us to get through. Knowing that someone is thinking of you, and cares about you, gives you a boost. Scientific studies show support like this boosts your serotonin levels, which makes you feel good. The best part? SENDING Happy Mail gives you the same boost as RECEIVING Happy Mail. You can’t get that kind of result with everything – Happy Mail is special that way.
Where To Start
Now you’re thinking this Happy Mail thing might just be a good idea, right? I know, it sounds a little hokey at first, but everybody comes around in the end. You can’t beat feeling good and being happy and sending those same feelings to someone else!
So you decide to commit, but wonder where do I start? That’s a great question. And the answer could not be more simple. The best place to start is to make a list of all the upcoming birthdays for your family and friends. That list will become your roadmap.

There’s no rule that says you have to wait until just before the recipient’s birthday to write the card. You can write them any time inspiration hits or when you have some free time. If you don’t wait til the last minute to buy and send your birthday cards, you’ll have time to think about and write a really great message.
Then, address that envelope and put a stamp on them. Nothing says “motivated to get this in the mail” like putting that stamp – that you paid for and now can’t use for anything else – on that envelope! Be sure to set a reminder on your phone or a note in your calendar, and put the cards in a basket or dish near your front door so that you put them in the mail to arrive on time. This way they are sure to be mailed and won’t get misplaced.
You’ve Just Sent Some Happy Mail
And there you have it, that’s all it takes. YOU feel good because you sent someone a card that will make their day. And THEY will feel good because you were thinking of them and took the time to write a note and send that card. Everybody wins, and this business of “adulting” seems a little easier for a while.
The best part of this process is that the good feelings don’t have to stop there. Birthdays are a great place to start, but there are plenty of reasons to send some Happy Mail. Thank you’s can be sent for just about any reason – you don’t even have to have a reason you can just thank someone for being in your life. Send Just Because cards to check in and keep in touch.
